Having Children

Heard on the Radio on my morning drive (Monday Sept 16th, ’24) to work this program that was talking about couples, with more emphasis on women, deciding to have fewer children. Specifically their own biological children. This of course was / is interesting enough of a toipc for more details but the host hinted at how this was being played by the various political sides and also the implication a possible shrinking population, i.e., workforce, has on the Social Security payout.

But before going into all that the host, Meghna Chakrabarti, started the two day program by speaking with Catherine Ruth Pakaluk – author of “Hannah’s Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth”.

I only got to the beging of the interview when I got to work and had decided that I would look up the episode and listen to it in it’s totality. While I have bookmarked the episode, I have yet to heave listen to it fully 😦 But I do plan to. Soon.

The Full Story

I was watching something on TV the other day and the host was talking about how we get away from paying taxes on stocks that we own. But certain individuals are able to borrow, and even get other investors to invest, against the same stocks that they are not paying taxes on.

At the face of it this sounds very wrong and should not be allowed. But first – this is not illegal, at least I am assume it is not. And the host is not directly saying that this is illegal. But depednig on how you listen to it, it might seem like that is what is saying and you could be influenced to think the same. But if you think it thru – the reason the individual is not required to pay tax on stocks that any of us won is because we decided that is a way ti incentivise business to be stablished. Those businesses will employ people, produce goods / services and those will be in the overall benefit of us.

The fact that other individuals and financial institutes are will to give the owner of those same stocks more money is really something that they are doing for the benefit of making more profit for their money. If / when they make a profit they will be required to pay taxes.

A Job

At a very very basic level – a job is a way to get the resource that one needs in the modern word to provide for the basic necessacities for his ownself and thise that he is responsible for. I am pretty sure this is true for most individuals.

But beyond just that a job can be, and in most cases is, more than that. It can provide a pupose, a structure / routine. Even a identy. if not a primary a secondary / additional identity.

And, irrespective of how much the compensation from the “job”, it is resource one can feel more agency over. This can also have an influence over our understanding of “money”.

Life Coach

I’m sure many of you have noticed this term more recently than in the past. So I did a bit of very rudimentary searching / googling and found all sorts of training / certification related to Life Coach. But interestingly the few individuals I did see list “Life Coach” as a skill on the online career sites didn’t seem to list any such certification. Not suggesting that they don’t have some training but do find it curious that they don’t feel they need to list what qualifies them.

Anyway, past that I suppose we all perform some level of Life Coaching in our own lives. Even if we don’t think about it actively, there are individuals in our lives who look up to us for advice / guidence. Of course they don’t necessarily stay in that place all their lives, most eventually move beyond. My point here being that we perform, unofficially, the role of a Life Coach without necessarily realizing.

But the more I think about it to me an official “Life Coach” is someone close / similar to a Therapist.
