Restaurants in the greater Austin area. Including some of my favorite restaurants, my top Chinese, Thai, BBQ

Mandola’s Italian Market

  • Location – Triangle
  • Cuisine – Italian, Bakery / Cafe / Coffee
  • Cost – $  ~ $+
  • Rate – 8+

Latte & Fahrenheit 451

One of my most favorite places in Austin for coffee and snacks. They have very good Pizza and other traditional Italian dishes, but I rarely am there for lunch or dinner – so, I rarely get a chance to try them. But most of their pastries are just soooooo goooood. And yes, I think I actually have tried most of them.

Casa Colombia

  • Cuisine – South America, Colombian
  • Location – East Austin (E 7th & Concho St)
Patacones Rellenos
Churrasco Pescado en Cilantro y Mayonesa

Casa Colombia had been on my “wish list” for the longest time. I even went there once a few weeks ago – only to find out that they were closed :o(

Well, this time we were not as unfortunate. We were returning from the Airport and it did take me a little while to find it (I have very rarely come from the Airport thru Downtown and they also had construction going on), but find it we did and was quite pleasantly surprised to find ample parking space.- manzoor

Gumbo’s (Westlake)

  • Location – West
  • Cuisine – Cajun / Lousian
Crawfish Etouffee Stuffed Rainbow Trout Chilean Bass Louisiana Bread Pudding

We went to Gumbo’s of Westlake for New Years Eve dinner – unfortunately, but not surprisingly, they were all booked for the evening :o( They did however have a few tables in the bar and were serving the full menu there.

We started with a bowl of Crawfish Etouffee. Then for dinner my wife chose the stuffed Rainbow Trout and I had the Chilean Bass. The girls shared some pasta and fried shrimp from the kids menu.

Both dishes were very good and surprisingly, we both liked our own dishes better.

Finally we had some bread pudding w/vanilla ice cream (most awesome).
