Raptured Achilles Tendon

It, the incident, happened April 10th ’24. Initially I didn’t quite realize what happened or how serious / significant it might be.

First day since injury – went and saw my Primary care physician and he immediately told me to go see an Orthopedist ASAP and gave me a referral. I made the appointment from his office and was lucky to get one the very next day. At this point the pain is fairly tolerable / manageable.

Day 2 – early morning the pain has taken a turn for the severe. Not quite untolerable but can feel it getting there. Am definitely glad to have an appointment “soon”.

Week 3 – Met with my Orthopedist for a follow up and got referred to see a Physical Therapist.

Week 4 – Met with my Physical Therapist and had a session. Got instruction on what to do on my own at home. Am trying my best to follow of the instruction. Not that they are too complicated but it is hard to know if I am doing it all exactly right.

I have lowered the boot from it’s most extened state to 1 notch down. Can’t really tell much of a difference so far.

Have also started to go to work. Not exactly my regular hours or even every day. But as frequently and for as long as logistics allows.

Week 5 – I have now been to the Physical Therapist for the 2nd time and have lowered the notch on the “boot” 2 steps from the most extended. Additionally, have swapped the sole for a somewhat thinner one. Though, just from wearing it’s not so easy to tell how much thinner it is. If anything, it feels more thinner to the heal end. Which makes getting used to this new one more of a challenge than I was anticipating.

Week 6 – Have been going to work when I can. Still have 2 weeks more to go. Physical therapy still going at once a week. Have added a couple of more exercises and also increased from 2 sets each to 3 sets of each. But still concentrating more on the leg muscles and not exactly the ankle quite yet.

Week 7 – Had my 3rd Physical Therapy Session. Have also started being out of the boot at home longer and also walking about without it on.

Trying hard to NOT get too excited and get my hopes up too much but am getting close to possibly being out of the boot and into regular footwear in about a week.

Week 8 – Appointment with Orthopedist. Feedback is the ankle seem to be moving well and is able to stretch in different direction well. Flexibility seem to be as well as the non-injured ankle. Boot not needed any more. But footwear / sneaker with some heal is preferred. Walking, without getting a cardio workout and stationary biking will be helpful. Of course what other exercise the Physical Therapist advises.

Of course ankle and leg still need quite a bit of strength to regain.
